Drawdown Delay

Due to an incomplete DOT bridge project in Burnham, the lake draw down
will be delayed for safety reasons.
The new date is Monday September 23, 2019.
The bridge engineers contacted the Newport Town Manager, Jim Ricker on
Monday to request an extension.
In spite of being aware of the annual draw down, this bridge project was
not reported to Mr. Ricker in time for the annual Water Regulation/Dam
Committee Meeting in mid-August.

A number of people saw an article addressing lakes in Maine that are at
risk for Cyanobacteria-Algae, the blue-green algae which is beautiful
but deadly.

Sebasticook Lake did have Cyanobacteria-Algae in 2002, and the lake will
always be at risk for numerous catastrophic events and natural
phenomena, which makes it imperative for lake property owners and
surrounding communities to remain vigilant in their good stewardship
practices. Presently, there have NOT been water samples taken expressly
for Cyanobacteria, but the water sampling team sends numerous samples
for testing, and we will continue to test the water all fall, winter and
spring.

Let’s hope for the best.

On a high note, the Loon count on Sebasticook Lake tallied 23 adults
Loons and 2 chicks this summer!!

More info as it comes my way.
