Update-Take 2

Jeekers, it is a lot easier to make a donation when you know where to send the money, huh?
Seems I neglected to include an address to which you can mail your donation for the Fire Works Fund and/or your annual dues.

Andre Cushing is the lake association treasurer – address 123 Maplewood |Road, Newport, Maine 04953.

Some folks like to write one check for both their donation to the Fireworks Display and for their annual dues.  Some folks like to pay for several years of the annual dues at a time; If you plan to send ONE check for BOTH the Fireworks Fund AND your annual dues – which are $10.00, by the way – it would be GRAND if you could attach a note specifying what portion of your GENEROUS CHECK is for the annual dues, and which portion is for the Fireworks Fund.

All checks should be made out to the Sebasticook Lake Association.

I apologize for that oversight.

Due to schedules, lack of technological know-how, and other barriers, the website has not been modified to include a ‘DONATE’ button, which could be used to make donations electronically.  That effort is still ongoing, and if anyone has an 8 year old grandchild who could assist us, we would gladly accept the help.  We are not too embarrassed to admit that an 8 year old has it all over us in the IT department.

News from the new Watershed Study; On Tuesday last week an urgent plea went out for a pontoon boat that could be used for the sediment sampling team to use                                                    on Friday of the same week!  The sediment sampling team has a tight schedule and the plan was to work Sebasticook Lake in when it could, and we knew it may be on short notice, but 48 hour notice?  It seemed almost impossible……….after all, WHO in their right mind has their boat in the 52 degree Fahrenheit water in the first week of May?!?!?!

No one, that’s who.

But, Donnie Gross worked his magic and somehow secured a pontoon boat, and the sediment sampling was accomplished on a windy, wavy day, and the watershed study remains on schedule, so a HUGE Thank You goes out to Mr. Gross, our HERO!!!

Katie Goodwin, the Project Scientist at EcoInstincts who is working with us on the new Watershed Study, said there is a need for some more ‘Boots on the Ground’ road assessments in the near future – any and all hardy souls who are interested in traipsing around the following areas can contact Katie at www.ecoinstincts.com or cell phone 978.502.2961 to offer your services.

The roads portion of the Sebasticook Lake Watershed Survey last week was successful, but there are a few roads yet to be surveyed along with a small section of the shoreline. Would you be able to coordinate getting these areas surveyed over the next couple of weeks? The remaining areas that need to be surveyed are as follows:

  • Shoreline Sector 6: Shady Lane, lot numbers 8-20 through 8-25, 8-31 and 8-32
  • Roads Sector B: Gray Rd. in Newport, Smith Rd. Hughes Ln. and Black Rd. in Corinna, Pratt Rd. and Simon Ln. in Newport, Durham Bridge Rd. North of Shady Ln. and south of the parking area on the north side of the bridge

Fear Not…………..if you are interested in helping, there will be a seasoned Survey Team member working with you.  I will have more information available soon.

That’s it for now, except for all of you who are not here, today’s air temperature is 48 degrees and it is windy.  Tonight’s overnight temperature is forecast to be 33 degrees.  If you are here, bundle up, start the wood stove, and cover those delicate new plants!!
